The rain continued through the night and we decided that it was time to change directions. If this storm was going to be hanging around this area, we were not. John was still feeling poorly and with the rain hanging on we decided to take a day off and let him get some needed rest. We moved on to Moab, Utah only an hour away to be in position to go to Arches National Park tomorrow. On the way (does this sound familiar) we saw a sign for Canyonlands National Park ~ why not? The resting could wait a couple of hours. The sun was shining in this direction and it was VERY dark in the other. Canyonland has about 18 miles of paved road so it provides a good opportunity to drive through and still see quite a lot. We only went to the Island in the Sky area of this park as the other two areas have very few roads and are mainly for backpacking and four wheeling.
Once again we were amazed with what we saw. So different than anything we have seen. The deep red sandstone formations and canyons were amazing.
The storm seemed to be chasing us as we drove through the park. At first we were driving through a corridor of sunshine and then the dark clouds moved in. At one point it began hailing but didn't last long. The bad weather was intermittent and didn't really deter us from seeing what we wanted to see.
After our three hour tour, we headed to Moab.
