Makin' time on the road

Today was a travel day ~ corn, corn and more corn (including John's jokes).   We drove across Illinois on I90 and into Iowa.  As we were driving through Iowa on I80, John began reminiscing about pork tenderloin sandwiches he used to get in Missouri during his college days.  Soooo we looked them up on line and found that the restaurant (Augustana) that won the best pork tenderloin sandwich in Iowa was right on our way.  Of course we had to stop.  We were NOT disappointed.  It was delicious. It was voted "Best of the Best" and we concur.

This is only half of the sandwich!  Ben was kind enough to split it in half.  They make their own rolls, pickles, mayonnaise and sweet potato chips.
Outstanding.

Actually, even better than John remembered and he enjoyed every bite.

Ben was a good salesman too and since he was so kind as to suggest splitting the sandwich,  we felt obligated to try the dessert.  Ben and his wife moved to Oxford after Katrina drove them out of New Orleans so they have many southern dishes on their menu.  This dessert was called chocolate covered beignets, New Orleans style~ unbelievable!
Well worth the stop.  The only problem was continuing to drive another 6 hours, I680 to I29 to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
After 12 hours of driving and that big lunch, we're off to explore Sioux Falls.
