Our float guide gave us some good tips so we were up early the next morning to chase the sunrise. Obviously we were not the only ones with the tip. Schwabacher Landing was a popular spot to watch the sun rise on the mountains.

We stopped at Dorans for a cup of coffee and spotted a moose right near the parking lot.

Moose love those poplar bushes |
We finished our stay in the Tetons with a four mile hike to Taggert Lake ~ another tip from our float guide. It was a beautiful hike and we really saw the evidence of the fall colors emerging.

our destination |
We wanted to stay in Jackson and explore the town but there were no vacancies anywhere. The visitor’s center in Jackson has a list of all the hotels and B&B’s and the hotels report in when they are full. We were given a list of places to try but they were all booked as well. So it was back to camp or move on . We looked around Jackson for a while and then started our journey toward Glacier.
We loved Jackson though. It is a great little town surrounded by the mountains with an arch made of elk antlers that welcomes its visitors. As you stand on the main road looking at the slopes it appears like the skiers would ski down the hill and right into the center of town.
We’re experiencing that more people travel in September than we anticipated. The parks have been much more active than expected but still not as crowded as July and August. We have also found that it isn’t always easy to ‘just find a room.’ After leaving Jackson we hoped to go to the next town and stay there. Next town? Where might that be? We passed places that had two buildings; one of them being the Post Office. How could these places possibly have a zip code?
We finally found a Comfort Inn in Dillon, Montana.
